What Causes Ciática Después de un Accidente de Auto
Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve — the longest nerve in the body, running from the lower lumbar columna vertebral through the buttock and down the leg — is compressed or irritated. Following a accidente de auto, the most common cause is a lumbar hernia de disco at L4-L5 or L5-S1 that compresses the raíz nerviosa contributing to the sciatic nerve.
Symptoms of Post-Accident Sciatica
- Sharp, shooting, or burning pain that radiates from the low back through the buttock and down the leg
- Numbness or tingling in the thigh, leg, or foot
- Weakness in the leg or foot (foot drop is a serious sign requiring urgent evaluación)
- Pain that worsens with sitting, coughing, or sneezing
- Pain that often affects only one side
Diagnóstico en MAIC
MAIC's evaluación of post-accident sciatica includes lumbar MRI to confirm hernia de disco and identify the specific raíz nerviosa compression level; NCV/EMG studies to provide electrophysiological confirmation of the raíz nerviosa dysfunction; and ortopédico and pain management evaluación for tratamiento planning.
