What a Causalidad Narrative Is
A causalidad narrative is a treating médico's written expert opinion that connects the mechanism of the accident to the specific injuries diagnosed — establishing that the accident caused the injuries with a reasonable degree of medical certainty. It is not a finding; it is a reasoned clinical argument.
What a Strong Causalidad Narrative Contains
A defensible causalidad narrative addresses: the specific mecanismo de lesión (direction and magnitude of force, paciente's body position, restraints); the immediate and progressive onset of symptoms consistent with that mechanism; the objective examen físico findings corroborating the quejas subjetivas; the imágenes or electrodiagnóstico findings confirming the structural or functional injury; and the médico's expert opinion, to a reasonable degree of medical certainty, that the accident caused the diagnosed conditions.
Why It Must Be in the First Report
The causalidad narrative must appear in the initial evaluación report — not as an afterthought added months later. Defense IME médicos and insurance carriers scrutinize the temporal relationship between the accident and the first clinical documentación. A opinión de causalidad added late is inherently weaker than one documented on day one.
At MAIC, causalidad documentación is built into every initial evaluación template. Our médicos are trained to capture mechanism, onset, and clinical correlation in the first report, creating a foundation that supports the entire subsequent clinical record. Call (888) 991-5290 to refer a paciente.
