PIP y Sin Culpa: Lo Mismo
In Nueva York, Protección por Lesiones Personales (PIP) and Sin Culpa insurance refer to the same benefit — the portion of your auto insurance policy that pays for medical tratamiento and salarios perdidos following a accidente de auto, regardless of fault. All Nueva York auto insurance policies are requerido by law to include a minimum of $50,000 in PIP/Sin Culpa coverage per person.
What PIP Covers
- Medical tratamiento: all reasonable and necessary medical expenses related to accident injuries, including evaluación, imágenes, especialista care, and rehabilitation
- Lost wages: up to $2,000 per month for up to 3 years if injuries prevent you from working
- Transportation: costs of getting to and from medical citas
- Death benefit: $2,000 in case of fatal accident
Enhanced PIP
Nueva York drivers can purchase Enhanced PIP coverage above the $50,000 minimum — up to $100,000 or more. Serious injuries from significant accidents can exhaust the $50,000 minimum, making enhanced coverage valuable. Check your policy's declarations page to see your current PIP limit.
